Clemson, SC’s alternative project titled “The Haunted Head” remained mostly quiet throughout the summer after releasing a dreamy waltz tune titled “Trembling Rose” back in the chilly month of February.
Today the band, headed by Brant Duncan (The Elegance, Pine Tar Rage) has announced the premiere of a new song, simply called “Natural”.
In a somewhat stark change of timbre from their previous efforts, “Natural” greets the listener with a heavier sound and firm tempo that fans of Crazy Horse will appreciate while Duncan’s unique voice hovers near the point of subconsciousness.
Accompanying the new song is a video directed by WJAY. Stream and share “Natural” via youtube and bandcamp links below.
Fellow rock and rollers of Carolina known as “Pine Tar Rage” have announced plans to release their new single on the Gypsy Farm record label. The song, titled “I’m Gonna Have a Good Time“ punches right out of the gate with fierce determination; hell bent in fact, on making the most of one evening. Writer, singer, and guitarist Ed Campbell declares, “This is about someone who’s been working two months straight without a day off. They’ve saved up their money, stock piled their drugs only to get the flu that day…. but they’re gonna have a real good time, whether they like it or not.”
Ed, who is also known throughout the region for his bluegrass group “The Drovers Old Time Medicine Show” (formed over 30 years ago) says he’s “a rocker at heart” and that PTR serves as “an outlet for the rowdier compositions requiring more electricity” – although some songs inevitably cross over between the two bands such as last Summer’s “I Got a Headlight Out”.
Campbell is joined by lead guitarist Brant Duncan of Clemson area folk duo “The Elegance,“ bassist Jeff Barrett of Central’s “Wheeler,“ and drummer Zeke Sayer of Georgia-based band “The Humms“.
“I’m Gonna Have a Good Time” will be available for download and streaming via Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and all other online outlets March 13th!

AMERICA!! LOOK AWAY from yon Stupor Bowl. This promotion commotion, courtesy of Benjamin McCormick, Esq., appeared at our offices earlier today. The video is for “Dead Man’s Pose,” the lead single off Old Smokey’s debut album, “Wester Easter,” which is due out any day now (April 29, 2014 to speak specifically) as a joint release on Cloud Recordings and Gypsy Farm Records. Mr. McCormick, who has no time for such trivialities as The Facebooks, also lent his talents to the album’s artwork, for which (and for this) we at the offices of Old Smokey are eternally grateful.
