This release marks the first new material from the group since last year's track "Perfect Day", a softer-song structure when compared to the rest of PTR's discography, it should come as no sudden surprise to long time fans of The Drovers Old Time Medicine Show, also fronted by Campbell.
I loathe the word slapped and most variants of it. Yet, for such a year as 2020, perhaps that word justly defines what a slap in the face it was. Perhaps it was even necessary. In a notable departure from the album's full band arrangement, this alternate take on the song finds singer Emily Armond's voice in a most pure, yet vulnerable state, bouncing through hollows, embraced only by a warn, piano accompaniment, courtesy of Jacob Morris. Also sneaking out from the ether during this strange time is the first material in two years to be released from Clemson, SC's cow-punk stewards, Pine Tar Rage. The song titled "Perfect Day" recalls the adventures of an individual from pre-sunrise and climaxes into all the fixings of the perfect day. Fans of PTR will immediately notice that the song is a somewhat departure in sound comparatively to their past recordings, but nothing unfamiliar to long time patrons of the band's live set.
