Exclusive interview with Uncle Goo

Fresh off his debut [Country Strange Vol. 1] earlier this year, Uncle Goo is once again grinding out another batch of his famous country + western tunes.  His latest single “This Heat” is due out August 13th on Gypsy Farm Records.

Uncle Goo took a few moments away from his recent recording session at Gypsy Farm to dip into Shoal Creek and ponder on his living in Georgia as well as a favorite scene from the Johnny Cash bio-pic “Walk The Line”.

During the interview, Goo is joined by canine companions “Dash” and “Rufus” before giving a joyful rendition of Cash’s “Tennessee Stud” live from Shoal Creek.  Watch and share the full interview via youtube link below:

Stream: Country Strange – Vol 1

Debuting high on the parkertown yodel-charts this morning comes “Country Strange Vol. 1” featuring a modest collection of original country songs pinned by long-running Gypsy Farm associate Uncle Goo a.k.a Garrett Chase Carpenter.  We first got a taste of this sweet medicine back in the ladder part of 2018 with the release of two singles “I’m Tired” b/w “Mallory”.

“It’s all here folks – country and western tunes of loathe, love and gout.” says associate producer and graphic designer WJAY.  As per usual, the standard GF band of cronies provide solid backing through-out the entire playlist given wing with the addition of pedal steel picker Matt “Pistol” Stoessel and lead guitarist Jake Stargel.

Country Strange Vol. 1 is available January 2nd on all streaming platforms including bandcamp and digipak CD.

Tune in to 92.1 FM WLHR Lake Hartwell Radio on January 4th to hear local DJ Porkchop sit down for an interview with Uncle Goo at 9:30am!

LISTEN: Marble Soup track “Kerosene”

After releasing his debut solo effort in January, senior GFR member Matthew Caleb Garrison (Marble Soup) embarked on a European tour as the bassist for Elf Power and upon his return to the states has now issued a brand new single titled “Kerosene”.

Venturing from previous Marble Soup releases, this zero-gravity tune boasts an intergalactic vibe brought on by Garrison’s keying of the Rhodes piano met with solid backing courtesy of drummer Cody Martin, complimented with the masterful guitar work of Jake Stargel, finally baked in a dash of star-dust provided by Zeke Sayer on vocoder.

GFR label celebrates 10 years

As we’ve found ourselves nearing the end of an amazingly bazaar year, the realization came upon a windy night at Gypsy Farm that our label division is now (unbelievably) a decade old.

Ten years of records, cds, tapes, streams, dreams, clips and trips with still one more release slated for 2018 – Uncle Goo’s follow-up crooner titled  “Mallory” due out on December 3rd.

The following day (Dec 4th) you will find the Ice Creams performing one of two Athens, GA concerts in support of their self-titled EP at the Go Bar with an additional show commencing on December 20th at Flicker Theatre and Bar.

GF contributor WJAY has expressed a strong hope that we’ll see you all in another decade going on to toast :

Here’s to a continuation of releasing music and visuals we find interesting and a huge thank you to all that have supported GFR and it’s artists through-out the decade whether it be by recording in our studio, spinning our records or going out to see the live shows.  Thank you!

Kwazymoto premieres new track

Experimental noise punk duo Kwazymoto have debuted a new single from their forthcoming album My American Family – available Sept 28th with the release show taking place Oct 6th at The Caledonia Lounge in Athens, Ga.

Flagpole magazine premiered the official music video for the track titled Hipster Scum calling the band “one of the most musically and conceptually ambitious bands in town”.

Kwazy-frontman Ian Hemerlein had this to say : “The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Zeke Sayer at Gypsy Farm Studio. We have also returned back to our original two-piece lineup for this album, which is [myself] on guitar and vocals and Kody Blackmon on drums. My sister, Lauren Hemerlein, also performs harp on some of the tracks. I directed the video, which is our first to feature lyrics visually, so I would encourage reading them”.

Hemerlein has also recently released solo material under the name Saint Syzygy.

Stream the music video below and check out Kwazymoto Oct 6th for the release of their third album “My American Family”.
