We are pleased to have been involved earlier this year with the solo release of guitarist and known slugger, J.R. Fisher and the release of his song Vacation.
Fisher, who plays guitar with Ohio hard knockers, Unchipped, is also head-barker over at local Columbus record label, We Used To Drink Together Records and was instrumental in working with GF way back in January on the task of producing this limited run cassette release of their self-titled debut album.
“Today I received a box of Unchipped cassettes. This tape is a totally different mix and master than what you have heard so far, mixed by Zac Szymusiak at Weird Music Studios, and mastered by Zeke Sayer at Gypsy Farm Records, including cover art by Naoya Kawakami, and photos taken by Skot Thompson and John Toohill.

Earlier today, the cassette sector of Gypsy Farm released a statement claiming their machines are “fired up” and running momentarily to produce a “super short-run” follow up to 2018’s now out-of print compilation album, Rock and Raw.
The first volume was an even shorter-run tape release, only circulated privately among the bands involved and friends.
Rock and Raw: Vol. 2 is packed with past and current artists of the label roster and comes loaded with the newest single out from the Humms unreleased album, Vampire Hours.
Opening with Bat & The Bears – “Kromp”, an urgent breakbeat style of composition brushed with samples of old gospel choir recordings.
That segues delightfully into the raunchy sludge of distortion that is The Honey Sliders tune “Fucking And Fighting”. This mixtape is sure to liven up the cooler-conversation if played in the workplace.

In other GF related news, we are excited to finally see the release of Ancient Whales: Live at Adult Swim this Friday (May 29th) where ever good music is streamed!
Pre-orders are now up for Ancient Whales: Live at Adult Swim via the GFR bandcamp. Originally recorded at Adult Swim HQ in Atlanta, GA for broadcast in 2018, the band then consisted of Enoch (guitar) and Natalie (bass) both sharing vocal duties, backed by the dual drum-team of Scott (TS) Woodward and Bryan (BP) Poole, respectfully.

Also sneaking out from the ether during this strange time is the first material in two years to be released from Clemson, SC’s cow-punk stewards, Pine Tar Rage. The song titled “Perfect Day” recalls the adventures of an individual from pre-sunrise and climaxes into all the fixings of the perfect day. Fans of PTR will immediately notice that the song is a somewhat departure in sound comparatively to their past recordings, but nothing unfamiliar to long time patrons of the band’s live set.
Singer songwriter, Ed Campbell trades in his usual high-gain mesa/boogie for a more reserved guitar-tone that is only complimented by Brant Duncan’s slippery-slide guitar leads, reminiscent of early Flaming Lips with Ronald Jones.
Both elements are meld together by the retro country-shuffle rhythm section of Jeff Barrett (bass, vocals) and Zeke Sayer (drums, vocals).
Meanwhile, back in March, we saw this interesting piece of sonic-syrup take forum within the laboratories of Gypsy Farm by a specimen known only as “RICHIE”.
The near six-minute raver is called “W.I.P” and was received with this press release:
“In 1973, the fabric of time was ripped open and from that gaping hole emerged a being that would be known only as ‘Richie’. He deserved no last name but in him the fire remained to make you move yo’ ass and make you smile and laugh. Richie didn’t have no Daddy, only Mama. She taught him superstitions and lived a life full of drama. But she sang and loved sincerely. She gave him music and he loved it dearly. The magic in the songs is all that’s kept him moving along. Up, down, sideways, bringing it honest and strong.”

Bandcamp announced earlier this week that they would be waiving their usual fee on downloads and offering 100% of all income to artists that are struggling during this strange time.
“We know many artists and labels have been hit especially hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, very possibly including you. To support the Bandcamp community during this challenging time, we’re waiving our revenue share on all sales this Friday, March 20, from midnight to midnight PST, and rallying fans to put some money directly into your pocket.”
During a last minute meeting with all artists on the GF roster, it was decided as of now and throughout next week, Gypsy Farm will donate 100% of all online sales from Bandcamp to the Northeast Georgia Food Bank.
“For every $1 the Food Bank receives, we are able to distribute 4 meals.” a representative at NEGFB said. Additionally, we will be donating all sales that have already been collected this week prior to announcement, so if you’ve already been downloading from our bandcamp, thank you and we’ll donate that too!

The undisputed champion of country strange, Uncle Goo will return to Athens, GA on March 15th with his band, The Country Dragons (members of The Humms, Shoal Creek Stranglers) and play a special Sunday show at the World Famous bar for any and all patrons whom opt on staying in town during the SXSW season.
Goo will be joined by fellow psychedelic surfers, Outersea (members of Hot Fudge, Lydia Brambila) and gypsy garage rockers, Ancient Ethel – the latter of which just embarked on a 12-date southeastern tour of the US beginning tonight at Fleetwoods in Asheville, NC and rolling on through March 19th at Augusta’s beloved Soul Bar.
Catch them on the road at a dive near you and while you’re at it, pick up their GF recorded release at the show or via bandcamp.

Long before Country music became a fad of designer-ripped jeans & cowboy hats, the Shoal Creek Country Music Park in Lavonia, Ga offered folks of the surrounding areas, a front-row glimpse at what would become arguably the biggest Country music stars of all time.
It was indeed, the place to be every Saturday night.
Founded in 1961 by husband & wife, Alton & Bertha Mae Walters, the Shoal Creek Music Park continues today to host the origins of many a Country music legend & tales, such as Johnny Cash rolling out Folsom Prison Blues, Dolly Parton shaving her legs on the banks of Shoal Creek, (allegedly with Porter Wagoner’s razor), Conway Twitty performing to a crowd of 6,000 fans or Jerry Lee Lewis pushing a loaner piano off of the stage.
One alleged event was Tammy Wynette leaving George Jones, for the final time, drunk on his tour bus at the music park.
Two days later, George woke up and wondered where everyone was.
Nate Combs is directly responsible for numerous Carolina bands such as Kill Geddy Lee, F.N.C.F and Mosquito Rodeo. Combs is also in charge of day-to-day operations at the infamous Guttersville Records and is rumored to be related to the Wizards of Dawn.
Ed Campbell (Episode 42 of the Ratio Podcast) is perhaps best known throughout the Southern region for fronting a high octane bluegrass group ‘The Drovers Old Time Medicine Show‘ which just celebrated over 30 years together. Speaking from his porch with cigar in hand Campbell reiterates that he’s “a rocker at heart” and has been looking forward to what will be his first solo show in 32 years.
Ancient Ethel has consistently kept a steady string of performances and along with debuting an EP last year, they’re proud to announce the recent adoption of a “Baby Blue” van into the flock and just in time for their upcoming tour.
We finally reached Uncle Goo for comment. He says “Me and the boys are gonna get down in the upstate, up in the downstate and every which way in between” and then adds “Also, doing it for Seneca.” Whether Goo is referencing the town or the great Roman philosopher “Seneca” remains unclear.
Rounding into 2020 we bring you a tune pinned by Columbus, Ohio’s own J.R. and the Cobblers titled “Vacation” (feat. Country Death).
Fronted by James Fisher who first hit our radar on solo tours throughout the United States performing with acts such as “Hookers Made Out Of Cocaine”, metal band “Unchipped”, Fisher also co-founded the label We Used To Drink Together Records.
“Vacation” is a selection (featuring Country Death on piano) plucked from the bunch that showcases J.R.’s ever manic songwriting style as he belts:
“There’s blood on the porch but I don’t know whose. There’s blood on my shoes but I can’t remember where I was coming from when I came home last night”
As the 10-year anniversary of the HUMMS’ debut LP “Lemonland” approaches, few were surprised to see a sudden restock of the original 45rpm single titled “Don’t Think About Death” b/w “Buttermilk/Uncle Sam Took My Baby Away”.
The single was initially released by Silver Spring, MD label “Arnold Records” in 2010 on black and special “glow in the dark” vinyl editions.
While the latter has completely sold out, the remaining black vinyl versions may be purchased over at the Gypsy Farm bandcamp.
Unconfirmed sources close to the band claim a new album is in the works with a possible release date sometime in 2020. Of course, stay tuned into the Gypsy Farm network for all the latest updates and more.
Clemson, SC’s alternative project titled “The Haunted Head” remained mostly quiet throughout the summer after releasing a dreamy waltz tune titled “Trembling Rose” back in the chilly month of February.
Today the band, headed by Brant Duncan (The Elegance, Pine Tar Rage) has announced the premiere of a new song, simply called “Natural”.
In a somewhat stark change of timbre from their previous efforts, “Natural” greets the listener with a heavier sound and firm tempo that fans of Crazy Horse will appreciate while Duncan’s unique voice hovers near the point of subconsciousness.
